Case Study

Upgrade to Siebel 7: A Global Investment Bank.

The Situation

In December 2002, Wability was contracted to perform an analysis and a subsequent upgrade to Siebel 7

Siebel 7 Extends the reach and functionality of Siebel Systems’ suite of integrated, multi-channel e-business applications and enables real-time analytical ability to track and understand customer behavior, subsequently allowing companies to be “digitally wired” to their customers, partners and employees. With this release, Siebel also introduces Smart Web Architecture—technology that combines a zero-install Web client with the interactive capabilities typically found with desktop applications. The scalable, common Web architecture prepackages several critical e-business core technologies, such as a rules-based personalization engine; content management platform; business rules or workflow engine; and assignment or routing engine.

Prior to the upgrade, Wability developed a cost-benefit analysis for the client. After realizing the clear benefits of the upgrade, our client gave us the green light. The first phase of this project consisted of Installing Siebel 7 servers and script, running scripts to merge, upgrade and validate the upgrade of the existing Siebel 6 repository with the new Siebel 7 repository. The team then performed a logical and physical schema upgrade, and upgraded customized views and applets to Web templates. This was followed by the configuration of the email response application as per the new functionality in Siebel 7. The team then installed Web Server on iPlanet for thin client access, after which, they prepared project plans for migration to production. Lastly, the migration plans were successfully executed.
